A seminar was organized by Sohail Shakoor, Regional Coordinator PTGD Sahiwal, at Sahiwal Medical College to celebrate the International Thalassaemia Day (May 08) for creating awareness among health professionals and civil society.
Objective
The objective of celebrating International Thalassaemia Day was to draw the attention of the general public, patient associations, public authorities, healthcare professionals, and industry representatives to promote actions on a particular theme 2022 (Be Aware, Share, Care) related to prevention, management, or treatment of the disease in a patient-centered manner.

Dr. Amber Nawaz Ch. hosted the seminar and Muhammad Salaar Sohail, Student of Class One from DPS Ambassador of Thalassaemic Children in Pakistan participated as a Speaker to motivate the participants for understanding the genetic diseases of thalassaemia and the need of blood for thalassaemic children. Sohail Shakoor, Regional Coordinator PTGD Sahiwal presented the presentation on PTGD and its services. Associate Prof. Dr. Zareen Amjad, Head of Department (Gynea Unit-II) participated as CVS Consultant and presented a presentation on CVS procedure and its importance. Assistant Prof. Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Yaseen, Consultant Paeds explained what is thalassaemia and how this occurs and preventive measures need to be taken in this regard. Assistant prof. Dr. Amna Arooj, Consultant Hematologist SLMC emphasized on pre-marital screening of people to save the nation from these genetic diseases.
