A Thalassemia Seminar, Awareness Walk and Screening Camp was organized by Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Coordinator, PTGD Regional Center Sargodha) at The University of Sargodha for celebrating the National Thalassemia Prevention Day.
Objective:
The objective of this seminar was to celebrate National Thalassemia Prevention Day (8th November) and also give awareness to the faculty, staff and students of university about free of cost services of PTGD and its Regional Center Sargodha.

Mr. Zubair hosted the seminar. Welcome speech was given by Dr. Beenish Ijaz Head of Social Welfare Department. Dr. Khawaja Arshad explained what Thalassemia is, how it is diagnosed and what curative and preventive measures needs to be taken in this regard. Dr. Misbah and Dr. Saira participated (Consultants CVS) discussed the importance of pre-natal diagnosis (CVS procedure) and Carrier screening respectively. Mr. Muneeb Rahmat gave presentation about the services of PTGD and its Regional Center Sargodha and also told the importance of National Thalassemia Prevention Day (8th November). While addressing to the students, Dr. Ghulam Shabbir Tahir (MS DHQ Hospital Sargodha) emphasized on pre-martial screening and told the students that they can get their pre-marital screening from PTGD Regional Center, DHQ Hospital, Sargodha. Prof. Ghulam Abbas Gondal, (Dean of Faculty, UOS) appreciated the services of PTGD and its Regional Center, Sargodha which are being offered free of cost to general population and community. He also emphasized on pre-marital screening and suggested the students for getting their Thalassemia Tests from PTGD. After the seminar, an awareness walk for the celebration of National Thalassemia Prevention Day was arranged in which faculty, staff and students participated. Lastly, Prof. Ghulam Abbas Gondal also inaugurated the Screening Camp and huge number of students got their Thalassemia Tests. Students also appreciated the PTGD Regional Center Sargodha for organizing Thalassemia Awareness Seminar, Walk and screening camp at the University.
