PTGD Sargodha Region observes World Thalassemia Day (May 8th,2024) with an Awareness Walk held at Superior University Sargodha

To commemorate World Thalassemia Day (8th May), RC PTGD Regional Center Sargodha organized a Thalassemia Awareness Walk at the Superior University Sargodha Campus. The event witnessed the participation of more than 350 students, faculty, and staff members.

Objective:
The aim of the walk was to enlighten students about the significance of International Thalassemia Day (May 8th) and underscore the importance of pre-marital screening in thwarting this disease. Students were encouraged to avail themselves of the complimentary thalassemia testing services provided by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha to contribute to the eradication of thalassemia.

Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha, orchestrated an awareness walk on the significance of International Thalassemia Day (May 8th) at the Superior University Sargodha. The walk emphasized the prevention of Thalassemia and promoted the message "Get Your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage for a Thalassemia Major-Free Pakistan," underscoring the importance of prevention over cure.

Leading the walk were Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Ch. (Campus Director), Prof. Dr. Khawaja M. Arshad (Pediatrics Consultant, SMC), and Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Coordinator, PTGD Sargodha Region), accompanied by students, staff, and faculty of the university.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal praised PTGD and its Regional Center Services and extended gratitude to Mr. Muneeb Rahmat for organizing the walk on their campus. He commended Mr. Muneeb’s endeavors in raising awareness about Thalassemia prevention among students and youth. Dr. Iqbal stressed the importance of premarital screening, informing students about the availability of Thalassemia tests at the PTGD Regional Center at DHQ Hospital, Sargodha, offered free of charge to the general community. Prof. Dr. Iqbal pledged his full cooperation with RC PTGD Sargodha Region in the future.

The students also acknowledged the efforts of the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha for organizing the Thalassemia Awareness Walk and enlightening them about this noble cause. They vowed to disseminate the message of "Get the Thalassemia Test Done Before Marriage for a Thalassemia Major-Free Pakistan" among their friends, colleagues, and fellow students.
