On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day (8th May), Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha, organized a Thalassemia Awareness Walk at Dr. Faisal Masood/DHQ Teaching Hospital, Sargodha.
Objective:
The walk aimed to raise awareness about thalassemia's impact on individuals and families and to educate the general population about the importance of International Thalassemia Day (May 8th). It highlighted the free preventive services offered by PTGD and its Regional Center Sargodha and emphasized the importance of premarital thalassemia testing to prevent the disease, promoting the message that prevention is better than cure.

RC PTGD Regional Center Sargodha organized an awareness walk on 8th May to mark International Thalassemia Day, emphasizing the prevention of Thalassemia and promoting the message, "Get Your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage," at Dr. Faisal Masood / DHQ Teaching Hospital Sargodha.
Prof. Dr. Humaira Akram (Principal, SMC), Dr. Mushtaq Bashir (MS, Dr. Faisal Masood / DHQ Hospital Sargodha), Dr. Rana Riaz (Director, Health Services Sargodha), Dr. Arshad Rauf (Chief Consultant Peads, DHQ), Dr. Khawaja M. Arshad (Consultant Pediatrics, SMC), Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Head, PTGD Sargodha Region) led the walk, along with doctors, staff, and the general population.
Before the walk commenced, all dignitaries addressed the media about the significance of World Thalassemia Day and the free preventive measures offered by PTGD and its Regional Center Services (Govt. of Punjab) to combat Thalassemia. Mr. Muneeb, as the Regional Head of PTGD Sargodha Region, emphasized the complimentary services of PTGD for the community and encouraged maximum utilization, stressing the importance of premarital screening. Prof. Dr. Humaira Akram highlighted the importance of premarital screening offered by the PTGD Regional Center Sargodha. Dr. Mushtaq Bashir expressed pride in Dr. Faisal Masood/DHQ Hospital serving as the divisional center providing all preventive services for Thalassemia. Dr. Rana Riaz acknowledged the complimentary PTGD Regional Center Sargodha’s services at the divisional level. Dr. Arshad Rauf and Dr. Khawaja Arshad encouraged individuals to utilize the free testing services provided by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha and to undergo testing before marriage as a measure to eliminate Thalassemia. All Guests of Honor commended Mr. Muneeb Rahmat's efforts in raising awareness about Thalassemia in Sargodha Division. Following the media briefing, the walk proceeded from the hospital's main building to the main entrance gate, with the entire event covered by electronic and print media.
