Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha, orchestrated a two-day Thalassemia Awareness Activity and Screening Camp at the University of Sargodha (UOS) during the inaugural ceremony of the UOS 1st Research Arena 2024.
Objective:
The purpose of this awareness campaign and screening camp was to educate students about thalassemia and stress the significance of undergoing thalassemia tests before marriage, highlighting the principle of "prevention is better than cure." Furthermore, the goal was to raise awareness among students, faculty, and staff about the free preventive services offered by PTGD and its Regional Center in Sargodha.

PTGD Regional Center Sargodha conducted a two-day thalassemia awareness session and screening camp on 1st & 2nd March, 2024 upon the invitation of Dr. Beenish Ijaz Butt, HOD Social Work Department at the University of Sargodha, as part of the inaugural ceremony of UOS 1st Research Arena 2024 event.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, along with esteemed Guests from the 1st Research Arena 2024, such as Prof. Dr. Ziaul Qayyum, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, Vice Chancellor of BZU Multan, and Vice-Chancellors from other renowned public universities, visited the camp. Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator of Punjab Thalassemia PTGD Sargodha (Govt. of Punjab), provided insights into PTGD's complimentary preventive services, including Pre-marital Screening PM, Extended Family Screening EFS, Pre-natal Diagnosis CVS, Genetic Counseling GC, and awareness campaigns, available at its Regional Center in Sargodha and throughout Punjab. Dignitaries from various universities, including the Executive Director of HEC, acknowledged the valuable preventive services offered by PTGD (Govt. of Punjab) and commended the efforts of Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator PTGD Sargodha Region for dedication to achieving a thalassemia-free Pakistan. They also expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Qaiser Abbas (VC UOS) and Dr. Beenish Ijaz (HOD Social Work, UOS) for their collaborative efforts in organizing civic engagement activities with Punjab Thalassemia PTGD Sargodha Region (GoPb) at the university to raise awareness among students and prevent this noble cause. Students from various academic disciplines participated in thalassemia testing.
