Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha organized a Thalassemia Awareness Walk at Dr. Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital Sargodha (Formerly DHQ Teaching Hospital Sargodha) in observance of National Thalassemia Prevention Day (8th November).
Objective:
The objective of this walk was to observe National Thalassemia Prevention Day on 8th November and disseminate awareness among the youth and community regarding the significance of undergoing Thalassemia tests before marriage, emphasizing the principle that prevention is better than cure. The aim was also to raise awareness among the students and public about the free preventive services offered by PTGD and its Regional Center in Sargodha.

On the occasion of National Thalassemia Prevention Day (November 8th), PTGD Regional Center Sargodha organized an Awareness Walk focusing on the Prevention of Thalassemia and promoting the message "Get Your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage for Thalassemia Major Free Pakistan". The walk took place at Dr. Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital Sargodha, led by distinguished healthcare government officials of the district and division, including Dr. Mushtaq Bashir (MS, DHQ Teaching Hospital Sargodha), Dr. Rana Riaz (Director Health Services Sargodha Division), Prof. Dr. Khawaja Arshad (Consultant Pediatrician, SMC Sargodha), and Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Coordinator PTGD Sargodha Region).
More than 150 people, including doctors, medical students, PCBD SMC members, and community members, actively participated in the walk. They marched from the OPD to the hospital's main gate with the aim of raising awareness about Thalassemia and encouraging the general public to avail the free preventive services offered by PTGD. The walk also emphasized the importance of premarital screening, aligning with the theme of "Preventive Screening Services by PTGD for Thalassemia Major Free Pakistan".
Recognizing the valuable free preventive services provided by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha in the region, Dr. Mushtaq Bashir, Dr. Rana Riaz, and Prof. Dr. Khawaja Muhammad Arshad commended the proactive efforts of Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Coordinator, PTGD Regional Center, Sargodha) in organizing awareness activities in the division. The doctors and medical students expressed their gratitude to the Regional Coordinator and his team for their efforts. They also pledged to disseminate the message of Getting the Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage for Thalassemia Major free Pakistan among their peers and colleagues.
