International Thalassemia Day (8th May) Awareness Walk at The University of Lahore Sargodha Campus

PTGD Sargodha Region successfully organized 2nd Thalassemia Awareness Walk at The University of Lahore, Sargodha Campus to commemorate International Thalassemia Day (8th May). The walk saw the participation of over 350 students, as well as staff and faculty members. 

Objective:
The main purpose of organizing the awareness walk was to commemorate International Thalassemia Day (8th May) while also raising awareness among students, staff, and faculty about the prevention of Thalassemia and the complimentary preventive services offered by PTGD and its Regional Center in Sargodha.

Punjab Thalassemia & Other Genetic Disorders Prevention & Research Institute PTGD Sargodha Region in collaboration with Student Affairs UOL Sargodha Campus, organized an awareness walk at the Campus to commemorate International Thalassemia Day on 8th May. The esteemed Chief Guest for this event was Mr. Nasir Mahmood, the Pro-Rector of University of Lahore (UOL).

The objective of the walk was to raise awareness about the Thalassemia Disease and its consequences on the general population. The walk, led by the esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. Nasir Mahmood, Pro-Rector University of Lahore, accompanied by distinguished individuals such as Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Rector UOL), Dr. Muhammad Sarwar (Pro-Rector UOL Sargodha), Dr. Zahoor Ahmad (Campus Director) and Mr. Muneeb Rahmat (Regional Coordinator, PTGD Sargodha Region). The event saw active participation from Heads of Departments, faculty members, administrative staff, and students.

During his interaction with students, Mr. Muneeb Rahmat told the causes of Thalassemia and shared valuable insights on disease prevention. He encouraged students to take advantage of the free thalassemia screening services provided at the PTGD Regional Center in Sargodha. He emphasized the significance of undergoing these tests proactively before marriage, as it plays a crucial role in preventing the transmission of thalassemia.

During their interaction with students, Mr. Nasir Mahmood and Dr. Muhammad Ashraf emphasized the importance of International Thalassemia Day (8th May) and preventive measures in effectively managing thalassemia and other genetic disorders. They highlighted the significance of undergoing premarital screening test as a proactive preventive measure. They encouraged students to avail themselves of the free of cost premarital screening test offered by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha. The dedication and commitment of Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Sargodha Region, in raising awareness about thalassemia prevention were greatly appreciated. They also expressed their commitment to collaborating with PTGD Regional Center Sargodha in ongoing efforts to prevent thalassemia and other genetic disorders. Additionally, in response to a request from the Executive Management of University of Lahore, Mr. Muneeb Rahmat pledged to organize a grand seminar and screening camp at the UOL Sargodha Campus in near future. 

The students were extremely pleased with the University's Management and the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Sargodha Region for their dedicated efforts in raising awareness about the prevention of Thalassemia and Other Genetic Disorders. They made a commitment to Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, pledging their active support in promoting his message of "Getting your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage from PTGD for Thalassemia Major Free Pakistan as Prevention is better than Cure" among their peers and colleagues.
