In honor of International Thalassemia Day on 8th May, PTGD Sargodha Region arranged the 4th Thalassemia Awareness Walk at PGC-UCP Campus Sargodha. The walk saw a participation of over 300 students, along with faculty members and administrative staff.
Objective:
The purpose of organizing the awareness walk was twofold: to mark World Thalassemia Day on 8th May and to raise awareness among students, staff, and faculty about Thalassemia Prevention. Furthermore, the event aimed to emphasize the availability of free preventive services provided by PTGD and its Regional Center in Sargodha.

To commemorate International Thalassemia Day on 8th May, PTGD Sargodha Region (Punjab Thalassemia & Other Genetic Disorders Prevention & Research Institute), organized an awareness walk at the PGC-UCP Campus Sargodha (University of Central Punjab Campus). The Guest for this significant walk was Mr. Farrukh Malik, The Principal, PGC-UCP Campus Sargodha.
The objective of the walk was to raise awareness about Thalassemia Disease and its consequences on the general population. Leading the walk were Mr. Farukkh Malik, Principal, PGC University Campus, Sargodha and Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator, PTGD Sargodha Region. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, administrative staff, and students, all united in their efforts to disseminate knowledge about Thalassemia prevention and the significance of pre-marital screening.
In his discussion with the students, Mr. Muneeb Rahmat provided a thorough explanation of Thalassemia disease and shared valuable knowledge on preventing the condition. He encouraged students to take advantage of the free thalassemia screening services offered at the PTGD Regional Center in Sargodha. Stressing the importance of proactive actions, he emphasized the need for individuals to undergo this test before marriage as a critical measure in preventing the transmission of Thalassemia.
During his interaction with the students, Mr. Farukkh Malik stressed the importance of commemorating World Thalassemia Day. He urged students to avail themselves of the complimentary premarital tests provided by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha. The remarkable dedication and commitment of Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Sargodha Region, in raising awareness about thalassemia prevention were highly acknowledged. Mr. Farrukh expressed his commitment to maintain ongoing cooperation with the PTGD Regional Center Sargodha in the continuous endeavors to prevent Thalassemia and Other Genetic Disorders. Acknowledging the requests from both the management and students, Mr. Muneeb Rahmat committed to organizing a seminar and screening camp at the campus within the following months.
The students expressed their appreciation to the PTGD Regional Center Sargodha for arranging the Thalassemia Awareness Session and Walk and providing them with valuable knowledge about this important cause. They also pledged to support the Regional Coordinator in spreading his message of "Getting Your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage from PTGD for Thalassemia Major Free Pakistan as Prevention is Better than Cure" among their friends, colleagues, and fellow students.
