Objective of the Event:
The main objective of an Awareness Seminar was to create awareness in university students on 8th May International Thalassaemia Day focus on Prevention of thalassaemia is the only solution to avoid Beta Thalassaemia genetic disorder. By pre-marital screening of the college students in order to prevent Thalassaemia and inform decision making mechanism will helpful for their life. And, also inform the students about the free of cost prevention measures provided by PTGD.
Proceedings:
The event started with recitation of the Holy Quran. The discussion starts from Assistant Professor Dr. Saima Umer about “what is thalassaemia and other genetic disorders”. she explains thoroughly about the Alpha Beta Chains of Hemoglobinopathies in an excellent way for understandable the audience. The students look very keen and responsive during lecture. Secondly, the honorable speaker Associate Professor Dr. Ayesha Hameed gave a brief introduction on blood transfusion facilities for thalassaemia patient in Gujranwala Teaching Hospital, Gujranwala followed by Regional Coordinator, PTGD, Mr. Babar Fahim Butt gave session to the students on the prevention of Thalassaemia and other genetic disorders and services provided by PTGD in this regard. Further, about the disease and laid light on what the social and economic issues face by the family who bear a thalassemic child, with the help of some practical examples she systematically expresses the problems faced by the family in relatives and society as well. Associate Professor Dr. Tahira Akhtar describes the preventive measures for pre-natal diagnosis services to the thalassaemia families. She gave a detail overview about pre-natal diagnosis services offered by PTGD at Gujranwala Teaching Hospital, Gujranwala.
Later, The Guest of Honor, Medical Superintendent Dr. Sohail Anjum Butt appreciate the efforts of PTGD Gujranwala Region to arrange such an excellent event to create an awareness in university students about pre-marital screening to avoid thalassaemia in generations.
Commissioner, Gujranwala Division Mr. Naveed Haider Shirazi participate as a chief guest in seminar and his message for the students that Pre-Marital Screening is the only way to prevent the thalassaemia and saves out next generation from such a miserable disease.

Further, he applause the efforts of PTGD to arrange such a big event that followed by a thalassaemia screening camp for the university students.
Then, the honorable Director from Punjab Colleges, Gujranwala, Mr. Shahzad Rafiq paid a thanks note to all the speakers and specially to PTGD to conduct a very comprehensive session for the University of Punjab, Gujranwala Campus, Students. Furthermore, he appreciate the free of cost prevention measure of thalassaemia provided by Government. He describes that to end thalassaemia major it will be beneficial for our society.
