In commemoration of International Thalassemia Day (8th May), PTGD Sargodha Region successfully conducted the 3rd Thalassemia Awareness Walk at The Superior University, Sargodha Campus. The walk witnessed a participation of more than 350 students, accompanied by faculty members and administrative staff.
Objective:
The objective of arranging the awareness walk was to observe World Thalassemia Day (8th May) and simultaneously increase awareness among students, staff, and faculty regarding the prevention of Thalassemia. The event also aimed to highlight the free preventive services provided by PTGD and its Regional Center in Sargodha.

To commemorate International Thalassemia Day on 8th May, Regional Coordinator, PTGD Sargodha Region, Punjab Thalassemia & Other Genetic Disorders Prevention & Research Institute, arranged an awareness walk at the Superior University, Sargodha Campus. The distinguished Chief Guest for this occasion was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Ch. (The Director, Superior University Sargodha Campus).
The main objective of the walk was to raise awareness about Thalassemia Disease and its implications for the wider population. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Ch., Director - Superior University Sargodha Campus, along with Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator - PTGD Sargodha Region, led the walk. The event saw a spirited participation from faculty members, administrative staff, and students, all eager to contribute to spreading awareness about Prevention of Thalassemia and Importance of pre-marital screening.
During his interaction with the students, Mr. Muneeb Rahmat shared a comprehensive understanding of Thalassemia disease and valuable insights on disease prevention. He motivated students to avail themselves of the free thalassemia screening services provided at the PTGD Regional Center in Sargodha. Emphasizing the significance of proactive measures, he underscored the importance of undergoing this test before marriage as a crucial step in preventing the transmission of thalassemia.
During his interaction with the students, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Ch. highlighted the importance of observing World Thalassemia Day. He encouraged students to take advantage of the complimentary premarital tests provided by PTGD Regional Center Sargodha. The commitment and dedication of Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, Regional Coordinator of PTGD Sargodha Region, in raising awareness about prevention of Thalassemia and other genetic disorders were highly appreciated. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Ch. has expressed his commitment to collaborating with Mr. Muneeb Rahmat, the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Regional Center Sargodha, in their ongoing efforts to prevent Thalassemia and other genetic disorders.
The students conveyed their gratitude to the University's Management and the Regional Coordinator of PTGD Sargodha Region for their unwavering efforts in raising awareness about the prevention of Thalassemia and Other Genetic Disorders. They assured Mr. Muneeb Rahmat of their active support in spreading his message of "Getting your Thalassemia Test Done before Marriage from PTGD for Thalassemia Major Free Pakistan as Prevention is better than Cure" among their fellow students and colleagues.
