In connection with the National Thalassemia Prevention Day on November 8, 2025 a Thalassemia Awareness Seminar, walk, and pre-marriage thalassemia screening camp were organized on November 13, 2025 at Faisalabad Medical University.
The chief guest of the event was Haji Abdul Rasheed (Founder Halal-e-Ahmar Hospital & Thalassemia Care Center, Faisalabad. Among other distinguished guests speakers, Dr. Ali Ashgar, Paediatrician, FMU introduced the Thalassemia and it’s types, difference with other anemias, it’s complications and management of Thalassemia children along with treatment of thalassemia.
Dr. Yasmeen Ehsan (Director General PTGD FJMU Lahore) highlighted the causes, effects, and prevention of thalassemia and working and achievements of PTGD. Dr. Naveed Tahir, Assistant Professor, Public Health, PU, Lahore appreciated the working of PTGD and guide the participants about the genetic counselling and ask all the participants to get themselves a pre-marital test.
At the conclusion, Dr. Farwa Batool, Coordinator, FMU Faisalabad, thanks the guest and appreciated the working of PTGD and Incharge PTGD Faisalabad Regional Office, Mr. Muhammad Rashid. At the end of seminar,honoray shields were presented to Chief Guest and guest speakers. Thalassemia awareness walk was held, and the chief guest, along with other distinguished guests, inaugurated the screening camp, where students also underwent their premarital thalassemia screening test.
